## Motivation

The motivation for this proposal is to Set a precedent for behavioral expectations of Node Operators on the Internet Computer Protocol.

The Internet Computer has been built by the greatest Engineers in all of Blockchain. The DFINITY Foundation has done a tremendous job developing this protocol.

Unfortunately, like moths to a flame, certain actors have been drawn to this brilliance, and used the good name of this technology for their own selfish purposes.


## Background

There are 4 Node Operators currently operating on the network, who have undeniable financial ties to actors who defrauded the Neurons Fund on at least one occasion. This event, along with other similar events, resulted in the eventual stopping of the Neurons Fund, and lack of community confidence in the SNS. Their behavior caused immense damage to the SNS as a whole.

The SNS that these node providers have undeniable financial ties to are DOLR/YRAL/HOTORNOT, EstateDAO and FuelEV.

Their faces are on the white paper of the Estate Dao SNS, a project that is clearly fraudulent, and likely to have been funded in the same manner as Fuel EV. They have taken down their website estatedao.org, but evidence can still be found in the thread linked in this proposal.

The Node Providers in question are:

George Bassadone, GeoNodes LLC, Bianca-Martina Rohner, and Geeta Kalwani.

These actions should not be tolerated by the community. It is frankly shameful, that this information has been public for this long, and nothing has been done.

## Course Of Action (Proposal)

A grace period of no more than 1 month, in order for offboarding assessment to be conducted. Determinations must be made by DFINITY and the community in order for a series of proposals to unassign current active nodes, assign new ones, and eventually remove the nodes in question. I do not have the expertise required to perform that work. I need your help.

## Pros

This proposal is in line with the mission 70 objective of reducing inflation. Currently the network is operating 1422 node machines (including boundary nodes). Only 721 nodes are actually assigned and doing work on the network. We do not need providers on the network whose actions are detrimental to the community.

The providers in question, operate a total of 49 node machines. Unplugging these machines would achieve an immediate 3% reduction in total minted NP rewards.

## Cons

Adopting this proposal is an admission of our failings. Our failure to do the right thing when we should have. Let us not continue to make the same mistakes. Let us set a precedent going forward that this has no place on the Internet Computer.

## Closing Thoughts

This is your chance, Dominic Williams, and DFINITY Leadership. This is your chance to show the community that they come first. This is your chance to show retail investors, that you have their back and best interests at heart. The vision of the Internet Computer as a open and public chain are in your hands. You need to choose between corporate interests, and the community. There is no sugar coating it.

I am Dan, WebTree, on the forums. I’ve been building on the IC for over 2 years now. Nothing big that brings value to the wider community, but small projects that benefit small businesses who live near me, who can’t afford to pay big marketing agencies to do their website for them. That is not my profession, just something I do as a hobby and side hustle.

My real profession has me working hundreds of miles away from the people I would rather spend time with. In my real profession, it is my duty to influence others, by providing purpose, direction and motivation to accomplish the mission and improve the organization. That is what I do, that is my profession.

I have seen first hand, in my real profession, The true human costs that occur when corporate interests are prioritized over what is morally right.

In my real profession, I do not have the power to speak up. Much of the time, I have to do what Im told. At the end of the day, my family comes first. I realize that I am asking a lot of many of you to do what is right here. I understand that some of your livelihoods depend on these corporate relationships. I understand.

I am not wealthy, but I have put my literal blood and sweat into my belief in this protocol, as an opportunity for a better world. Please do the right thing here, because it is the right thing to do.
